A goods train carrying diesel caught fire near Tiruvallur on Sunday morning, causing significant disruptions to railway operations in the region, according to railway officials.

Dramatic visuals from the site showed thick black smoke and flames engulfing a diesel tanker on the freight train. Emergency teams are currently working to contain and extinguish the fire.

In response to the incident, Southern Railway confirmed that overhead power lines have been switched off as a safety precaution, resulting in widespread train cancellations and delays.

“Due to a fire incident near Tiruvallur, overhead power has been switched off as a safety measure. This has led to changes in train operations. Passengers are advised to check the latest updates before travel,” read an official statement from Southern Railway.
